As part of the BJP’s ongoing drive to woo and win over the tribal electorate ahead of the ADC election next year, the chief minister Dr Manik Saha yesterday addressed a rally in Takarjala area, organized by the party’s Takarjala ‘Mandal’. The programme held in the playground of Takarjala HS school had drawn a large crowd and, apart from the chief minister, it was attended by the general secretary of BJP, Bipin Debbarma, Sipahijala (north zone) secretary Biplab Chakraborty, Mandai ‘Mandal’ president Abhijeet Debbarma, Golaghati ‘Mandal’ president Naryan Debnath and Takarjala ‘Mandal’ president Nirmal Debbarma who had played the key role in organizing the joining rally.
Before speeches began altogether 135 tribal voters belonging to 42 families had joined the BJP by formally accepting the party flag from the chief minister Dr Manik Saha and other senior party leaders . Addressing the rally the chief minister called upon the tribal population of the state to join the BJP to have their longstanding aspirations fulfilled. “During the long left front rule you had heard only sweet words and populist slogans but no real development was done in the interior areas of the state ; it is only after the BJP came to power in Tripura that the real development of tribal people and their land began ; in order to share in the process as well as to improve your lot you join the BJP” said Manik . He slammed the opposition CPI (M) and Congress for their negative politics and said that these two parties will never come to power and will do nothing for triabal people.
Dr Saha also cited the instance of Bihar poll verdict and said that the people in Bihar had given a massive mandate to BJP because they know that only the BJP and its NDA allies like the United Janata Dal in Bihar can deliver on their promises . “ I am going to Bihar to attend the swearing in ceremony of the new NDA government and I also campaigned there before the elections ; the people of Bihar gave us this mandate only because they have faith in our capability to provide to them all kinds of benefits” said the chief minister. He also referred to the large number of schemes being implemented by the state government for the benefit of tribals in Tripura. “We have always given and continue to give funds to the ADC as per their demands but look at the ADC; they are not doing anything for development of the people ; we will make the ADC a truly great agency for the development of the tribal people for which it was constituted” said Dr Saha. He cited a large number of instances of what his government has done to honour the tribal people , their tradition and culture and reiterated his resolve to ensure full development of the entire ADC area without any discrimination.
