Mega Cannabis Destruction Drive Carried Out in Sepahijala District

A major multi-agency operation to eradicate large-scale illegal cannabis cultivation was successfully conducted across Sepahijala District on 18 November 2025. The drive, which began at 8:00 AM and continued till 2:00 PM, covered several remote and forested locations where cannabis was being secretly cultivated.

The crackdown was jointly carried out by the District Police, 1st BN TSR, 7th BN TSR, 11th BN TSR, 14th BN TSR, CRP, Women TSR, District Civil Administration, and the Forest Department. The operation was led by Shri Bijoy Debbarma, IPS, Superintendent of Police, Sepahijala District.

Acting on credible intelligence inputs collected by the State Police, teams were deployed across Sutarmura, Toktumadum, Chitta Rambari, Ukyamura, Tulamura Kamalnagar, and Ghatigar. These locations fall under the jurisdiction of Bishramganj, Bishalgarh, Kalamchura, Sonamura, and Melagarh Police Stations.

During the sustained operation, approximately 12 lakh semi-mature cannabis plants were detected and destroyed. The estimated market value of the seized and destroyed plants is around ₹50 crore, marking a substantial setback to illegal drug cultivation and trafficking networks operating in the region.

Authorities stated that such coordinated drives will continue to ensure strict action against narcotics production and to uphold the state’s commitment to a drug-free Tripura.
