BDO Mayukh Dutta Majumder’s Resignation Sparks Debate in Tripura

A major controversy has erupted in Tripura administration following the resignation of one of the state’s most efficient Tripura Civil Service (TCS) officers, Mayukh Dutta Majumder, who had been serving as the Block Development Officer (BDO) of Laljuri Block. He tendered his resignation on Monday, submitting it directly to North Tripura District Magistrate Chandni Chandran.

While the officer himself stated that he stepped down due to personal reasons, a section of local media has portrayed the development as a severe blow to the state’s administrative system. According to these media narratives, his resignation reflects the increasing challenges faced by honest officers in an environment allegedly clouded by corruption, irregularities, and undue pressures within Laljuri Block. The reports claim that the BDO had long been fighting against widespread misappropriation of funds, administrative anomalies, and the influence of vested groups over project allocations. However, they allege that he did not receive adequate institutional backing or protection from senior authorities, ultimately compelling him to leave the service in order to protect his integrity.

Contrary to such claims, officials close to the development have strongly refuted any link between his resignation and administrative conflict.

An authority in the North Tripura District Magistrate’s office confirmed that the officer was resigning purely due to personal circumstances.

According to the official, His parents are in Kolkata, and they have a family business. His father's health condition isn’t good. He had been planning to resign for a long time. We repeatedly requested him to reconsider, but we couldn’t convince him, said the DM North Tripura official.

A batchmate of the officer also echoed the same view, clarifying that the decision was entirely personal and unrelated to professional or administrative issues.

As the contrasting narratives continue to circulate, the resignation of BDO Mayukh Dutta Majumder has triggered intense discussions across the state.
