The Tripura Electricity Regulatory Commission (TERC) has announced the new electricity tariff for the financial year 2025–26, bringing substantial relief to domestic consumers across Tripura. Effective from 1 November 2025, the revised tariff ensures no increase in the energy charge, meaning that per-unit electricity rates for households will remain unchanged. This decision comes today as a major respite for families already facing rising living expenses.A key reform focuses on benefiting low-income households under the Kutir Jyoti scheme. The Commission has increased the permitted connected load from 120 watts to 500 watts, allowing consumers to run basic appliances such as lights, fans, and mobile chargers without restrictions. The monthly consumption limit has also been raised from 15 units to 30 units, significantly improving comfort and accessibility for economically weaker sections.Another major change is the introduction of a more transparent system for collecting fixed charges. Instead of charging per connection, TERC will now calculate fixed charges based on a consumer’s connected load (kW). This will allow low-usage consumers to reduce their contracted load and avoid unnecessary fixed costs, giving them greater control over their monthly electricity expenses.
TERC has also extended special rebates to support consumers living in remote and difficult terrains. A 10% rebate will be provided to hospitals, homestays, women self-help group–run business units, and mobile towers located in such areas. This initiative aims to strengthen healthcare access, promote tourism, encourage women’s entrepreneurship, and improve digital connectivity in underserved regions.
Environment-conscious consumers will continue to have the option to purchase green power at an additional 75 paise per unit, supporting the state’s shift toward renewable energy and sustainable development.According to the Commission, the new tariff structure is designed to avoid any extra financial burden on ordinary consumers while ensuring targeted benefits for vulnerable groups, remote areas, and environmentally responsible users. The measures are expected to deliver both relief and long-term positive impact across the state.
