In Agartala, public concern has intensified after the Tripura High Court lifted restrictions on the Motorstand Petrol Pump, allowing it to reopen despite persistent complaints about severe traffic disruption caused by its location in the middle of one of the city’s busiest roads.

The Motorstand Petrol Pump, one of Agartala’s oldest and most heavily used fuel stations was earlier shut down following directives from the district administration, which had asked the operators to relocate the pump to a more suitable area. Official sources confirmed that the pump authorities refused to shift the facility, pushing the matter before the Tripura High Court. After detailed hearings, the Court removed all administrative barriers and permitted the petrol pump to resume operations on Saturday.

However, the Court’s decision has triggered strong debate across the city. Local residents, transport operators, and shopkeepers argue that the petrol pump’s position at the center of the Motor Stand road regularly causes massive traffic congestion, long queues of vehicles, and serious road safety concerns, especially during peak hours.

Adding to the controversy, allegations have resurfaced that government pleaders once again failed to adequately convince the High Court that relocating the petrol pump is essential for the greater public interest. Critics claim the legal representation could not effectively present how the pump’s current location, right in the middle of one of Agartala’s busiest roads, severely hampers traffic flow and endangers regular commuters.

Citizens and stakeholders are now demanding sustainable and long-term solutions. Many are urging the authorities to revisit the relocation proposal, redesign the road layout, or implement dedicated traffic management systems to prevent the worsening of congestion in the Motor Stand area.

As the discussion grows, residents hope for an outcome that balances essential public services with the need for smooth, safe, and efficient traffic movement throughout the city.
