Tripura gets new State Election Commissioner

The Government of Tripura has appointed Manoj Kumar, IAS (Retd.), as the new State Election Commissioner, according to a notification issued by the General Administration (AR) Department. His appointment follows the completion of the tenure of Saradindu Chaudhury, IAS (Retd.), who had held the post since 14 November 2023 under the Tripura Panchayats (Constitution of State Panchayat Election Commission) Rules, 1993.

The notification stated that the Governor of Tripura, acting on the recommendation of the State Government and exercising powers under Section 176(1) of the Tripura Panchayats Act, 1993 along with relevant rules and amendments, has approved the appointment of Manoj Kumar as the new State Election Commissioner.

His service conditions will be governed by Rule 4 of the 1993 Rules, the provisions added through the 2006 amendment, and instructions issued via a government memo dated 21 December 2015. The appointment is effective immediately.
