Taking advantage of the holes in online security cyber frauds operating within or without the state have started fleecing people of their hard earned money from accounts in nationalized banks. What is important in this regard is that customers or account holders in local banks like the Tripura State Co-operative Bank (TSCB) or Tripura Gramin Bank (TGB) have not yet lost any money from their accounts to cyber frauds but many customers and account holders have lost in nationalized leading banks.
This is exactly what happened to Shobha Rani Deb of Ambassa Vivekananda Nagar area and retired employee of the state bank of India. Shobha Rani’s pension account is in Punjab National Bank (PNB) branch in Shikaribari area of Kamalpur subdivision. It was only yesterday that Shobha Rani got a mobile alert that Rs 10 thousand had been deducted from her account through UPI or online transfer. This was followed by several other messages showing small amounts of money had been deducted from her account by a number of online transfers.
Worried by what she had seen on mobile Shobha Rani sent her son the PNB branch in Shikaribari and he was told by bank authority that on November 12 and 13th a total amount of Rs 2.5 lakhs had been transferred online from her account by several installments of Rs 99 thousand. Stunned by what had been told by the bank authorities the son returned home and told his mother Shobha Rani how the big amount had been transferred. Shobha Rani was shell-shocked and said that she had always withdrawn her money through withdrawal forms and never by online transfer. She immediately filed a complaint with the bank manager and also registered a FIR with the Ambassa police station . The bank manager is stated to have taken a time of 45 days to complete his inquiry and recover the amount but the online fraud has sparked panic among the people of entire Dhalai district.
