Forcible occupation and encroachment of land along with other crimes like gun-point negotiation trade and extortion from land transactions have become virtually the order of the day over the past seven years since 2018. The government decision to recruit class III and even class IV employees through competitive exams worsened by outsourcing of government jobs to parties from outside the state have left thousands of unemployed youths high and dry. This has resulted in many illegal activities like forcible occupation of land .

In a bizarre incident in Lahortilla area of Surjyamoni Nagar under Amtoli police station a local mafia named Uttam Roy who is politically affiliated with the ruling party had forcibly occupied 2 ‘Kanis’ of valid ‘Jote’ land of Bulu Sutradhar in 2019. Despite protests an efforts at reconciliation Bulu Sutradhar failed to recover his land and filed a case . Sources from the area said that recently Bulu Sutradhar had won a court case he had filed earlier and had been declared as the valid owner of the land . An order for restoration was also passed by the district court.

But in a bizarre incident the staff of the revenue department who had gone this morning to remove forcible occupation and restore the land to the actual owner Bulu Sutradhar were threatened and driven away by the illegal occupant Uttam Roy. Since there was no police help available the revenue staff had to leave the place without doing their duty. The owner of the land Bulu Sutradhar said that he would move the court for ordering police action against the illegal encroacher Uttam Roy who is also a mafia for restoration of his land.
