The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has summoned a barber from Kailashahar in Tripura’s Unakoti district to appear before officials in Ahmedabad on November 20 following a search at his residence early Wednesday.
The barber, identified as Paritosh Shil, said that a team comprising police, Tripura State Rifles (TSR) personnel, and officials in plain clothes conducted the search at dawn. “They showed me proper documents, checked my house and property papers, and took two of my bank passbooks,” Shil told reporters.
He added that the officials, believed to be from the NIA, questioned him about a person named Rahim, claiming that 13 calls had been made from his number to Rahim’s. His mobile phone was subsequently seized.
Tripura Police officials confirmed that the NIA had carried out coordinated searches at several locations across the state in connection with an ongoing probe into illegal infiltration cases. “The searches were part of an earlier case being investigated by the agency,” a senior officer said.
Further details regarding the investigation or the reasons behind Shil’s summons to Ahmedabad have not been disclosed by the NIA.
