Former Director General of Tripura Police BL Vohra expressed deep astonishment at the remarkable transformation and comprehensive development of Tripura during his visit to the state after more than two decades. Before departing Tripura this afternoon, after a three-day visit, he stopped by the Tripurainfo office at Lichubagan, where he shared his heartfelt observations with Tripurainfo Editor Jayanta Debnath.

Accompanied by his wife on this personal visit, the former DGP noted that Tripura has progressed in extraordinary ways over the past twenty years. “The Tripura I knew is no longer the same, this is a transformed state,” he remarked. Vohra had arrived in Tripura to attend a programme organized by the Tripura Forensic Science Laboratory.

After retiring and leaving the state in 2002, Vohra returned to Tripura only for a brief three day tour. Yet, despite a busy schedule, he made time today to visit the Tripurainfo Lichubagan office before his departure. During a cordial interaction, he reminisced about the daring and challenging days of counter-insurgency operations in Tripura nearly three decades ago.

He gratefully recalled how positive and responsible reporting by journalists like Jayanta Debnath played a vital role in aiding the police during the peak of insurgency. Even during today's short conversation, the former DGP expressed heartfelt appreciation for Debnath’s contributions, acknowledging how ethical journalism can play a decisive role in resolving long-standing social problems. Hearing such praise from a former DGP moved Debnath deeply.

Jayanta Debnath in his social media platform shared:

'BL Vohra Sir assumed charge as Tripura’s DGP on May 23, 2000 and served until July 3, 2002. That was the peak period of insurgency in Tripura. But through innovative public-safety strategies, new anti-kidnapping measures, and courageous administrative actions, he was able to curb extremist violence significantly. During his tenure, kidnapping cases dropped sharply. Later, with the dedicated efforts of subsequent DGPs like Pranay Sahay, GM Srivastava, and K Salim Ali, Tripura slowly but steadily returned to peace.'

In today’s conversation, Vohra also fondly remembered the contributions of the other young journalists of that era. He specifically acknowledged several suggestions provided by Jayanta Debnath that helped curb kidnapping incidents, as well as the efforts of journalist Manas Pal.

Debnath added that many police personnel and journalists of today’s generation are unaware of this history. 'It is important for today’s police forces and journalists to know this history, because the peace, stability, and development that Tripura enjoys today is the result of relentless dedication by people like BL Vohra and many others,' he said.

Notably, during his short visit, BL Vohra also met Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha, Chief Secretary JK Sinha, DGP Anurag Dhankar, and his several other former police colleagues.
