The CITU or inter alia the CPI (M) today held a massive rally in the Orient Chowmuhuni area of Agartala, an open rally in the run-up to the 16th state conference of the Marxist labour outfit. Before the rally which commenced at 12-00 PM as scheduled the CITU state leadership including Manik Dey and Sankar Prasad Datta, president and secretary, had held an organizational meeting in the Agartala Town Hall where the actual proceedings are to start from this afternoon.

It was because of the denial of government permission for the Swami Vivekananda ground where the CITU had wanted to hold the rally that it was held in the Orient Chaumuhuni of Agartala but a huge gathering of CPI (M) and CITU supporters and workers had turned up to make the rally a grand success despite obstacles created in the form of forced withdrawal of vehicles , threat and intimidations of BMS and BJP. The rally was addressed by the former chief minister Manik Sarkar, state secretary and incumbent politburo member Jiten Chaudhuri, CITU state leaders Manik Dey and Sankar Prasad Datta, West Bengal CITU general secretary Anadi Sahu and the outfit’s all India general secretary Tapan Sen.

All the leaders spoke on the same line explaining how the country is being destroyed by the BJP governments in states and centre by playing second fiddle to the US imperialists and handing over precious resources of the country to corporate giants like Ambanis and Adanis. “The BJP government in Centre as well as in states must be unseated from power through democratic means , otherwise the unity and integrity of the country will be destroyed and there will be multiple divisions in the country on the lines of caste and creed” said the leaders. The also sought to point out how the vital interests of the working class people are being destroyed by the BJP and its affiliated outfits at the national and state level.

The state leaders , Manik Sarkar, Jiten Chowdhury, Sankar Prasad Datta and Manik Dey cited instances of attacks on CITU offices and leaders across Tripura since the BJP came to power in 2018 . “What is most unconstitutional and unlawful is the way in which the vital rights of political parties and their affiliated outfits are being infringed upon by the BJP and its workers and supporters ; hundreds of our offices have been destroyed and set on fire but people have now seen through the games of BJP and they are ready to fight back ; the CPI (M) and its affiliated outfits like the CITU will organise people against the continued misrule of the BJP and its allies parties in Tripura” said the top leaders. The CITU’s 16th state conference is beginning from late in the afternoon today and all political and organizational issues will be discussed threadbare.
