Man sentenced to life imprisonment for killing his wife

The Unokoti District and Session’s court sentenced one Ramij Ali (34) for killing his wife five years ago. Judge Sudipta Choudhury delivered her verdict and commented that it is a heinous crime. Judge also imposed a fine of Rs 50,000 and another nine months jail in case of non-payment of the fine. Government Advocate Sunirmal Dab said during the long hearing of the case two persons gave evidence in favour of Ramij Ali while 22 persons on the opposite side.
The 27-year-old wife Roshana Begam was killed when Ramij hit her with a hard weapon in their house at Khaurabil under Irani Police Station in Kailasahar. Immidiately after the killing Ramij fled awy from the spot but the investigating officer Aparna Debnath arrested him within three days.
It is alleged that Ramij used to pressurise her to bring more money from her father and used to torture her mentally and physically. On January 6, 2020 he hit her with a shovel and she died on the spot. Receiving the information her mother Nesharun Bibi rushed to the spot only to found that her daughter was lying in a pool of blood. She immediately filed a case in Irani Police Station.
