Murasing community’s cultural festival begins in Santir Bazar subdivision, Animesh Debbarma addresses

The Murasings are a small tribal community of the state as part of the altogether 19 tribal communities of the state with its distinctive culture , linguistic variation and identity. Late ‘Kokborok’ and Bengali poet Chandrakant Murasing was the first in entire northeast to win the prestigious ‘Bhasa Samman’ award conferred by the ‘Sahitya Academy’ for poets and writers of unscheduled languages.

Spread over in small habitations in Sonamura and Santir Bazar subdivisions the Murasingh community still celebrates their annual socio-cultural festivals. This year the 46th cultural festival of the Murasing community commenced in Paticherri area under Santir Bazar subdivision yesterday. The festival was inaugurated by the minister for forest , science and technology Animesh Debbarma in presence of minister Shukla Charan Noatia, SDM (Santir Bazar) Sanjib Chakma, community leader Birendra Tripura, leading ‘Kshatriya’ leader Jogendra Debbarma,

Addressing the inaugural programme minister Animesh Debbarma said that culture and festivals based on this should always be preserved and protected as culture always strengthens identity and relations with other communities. He appreciated the richness of Murasing culture even though their community is small . He called upon the Murasing community leaders to be mindful of their culture and their preservation . The three day festival and fair will come to an end tomorrow.
