Tripura Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha on Thursday said the state government is in talks with Germany and several Middle Eastern countries to create overseas employment opportunities for skilled workers from the state.
Speaking at a toolkit distribution programme for resettled Bru migrants, Dr Saha said Japan has already started recruiting skilled workers from Tripura under the Specified Skilled Workers Scheme. “We have already sent six persons to Japan under a good placement contract, and another batch of four will depart soon. Around 60 others are being trained in Japanese language to help them adapt,” he said.
The Chief Minister added that Tripura aims to expand similar tie-ups with Germany and Middle Eastern nations, focusing on the medical and technical sectors. He emphasised that skill development is key to sustainable livelihood generation, particularly for resettled Brus.
Highlighting the government’s initiatives, Dr Saha said Rs 8 crore had been sanctioned for training Brus in trades such as dairy, piggery, goatery, carpet weaving, and computer hardware. “In two phases, nearly 7,000 people received training, 445 secured placements, and over 200 obtained driving licences,” he said, adding that over Rs one crore was spent on toolkits for trained beneficiaries.
