Two drug peddlers arrested with brown sugar in Udaipur

Acting on a tip-off, Radha Kishorepur Police, under the leadership of Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Debanjali Roy, apprehended two suspected drug peddlers on Tuesday evening in Udaipur.
Police sources said that around 3.30 pm, Radha Kishorepur Police received secret information that a white Alto car was on its way to Gokulpur market area to sell narcotic substances, including brown sugar. Acting swiftly, the police, divided into two teams, took positions at Dhwajangar and Gokulpur areas.
At around 5.30 pm, the suspected vehicle arrived at Gokulpur market. The police team, assisted by plainclothes personnel, intercepted the car and detained two persons identified as Jatan Debnath and Mithun Chakraborty, both residents of Purba Dhadhanagar Gram Panchayat.
On searching the duo, police recovered about 36 grams of brown sugar packed in three small containers, estimated to be worth around Rs 1.5 lakh in the market. Both were immediately taken to Radha Kishorepur Police Station for interrogation.
Police said the accused would be produced before the court on Wednesday, and remand would be sought for further investigation. The Udaipur police are expected to invoke relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act as part of the legal proceedings.
