In a remarkable achievement, the District Administration of North Tripura has earned a prestigious place in the India Book of Records for constructing the maximum number of soak pits by an organization. The record was accomplished through the massive environmental and sanitation initiative ‘Uttar Jal Sanchay Yatra’, conducted on November 3 and 4, 2025.
According to the official certificate issued by the India Book of Records on November 4, 2025, the North Tripura District Administration successfully constructed 57,582 soak pits across Gram Panchayats, Village Committees, and Urban Local Bodies within just two days. This historic feat was recognized as a large-scale rural and urban sanitation and water conservation drive, aimed at promoting groundwater recharge, greywater management, and sustainable sanitation.
The India Book of Records certificate, signed by Dr. Biswaroop Roy Chowdhury, Chief Editor, acknowledged this exceptional effort as a benchmark in environmental action and community-driven sustainability. The initiative demonstrates the district’s strong commitment to environmental conservation and effective rural-urban collaboration.
The Uttar Jal Sanchay Yatra not only mobilized thousands of people but also showcased how coordinated community participation can achieve measurable impact in a short time. With this remarkable accomplishment by District Magistrate (DM) of North Tripura Ms. Chandni Chandran, an Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer has set an inspiring example for the entire state and the nation in implementing innovative and sustainable water management practices.
