The Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO), Sadar, West Tripura, has denied permission to the Youth Tipra Federation (YTF) for organizing a mass rally at Vivekananda Ground, Agartala, citing public safety and logistical concerns.

In an official letter addressed to Shri Suraj Debbarma of the Youth Tipra Federation, the SDPO’s office stated that the decision was taken because half of the Vivekananda Ground is presently occupied by the ongoing International Expo, which is witnessing large participation from women, children, and international delegates. The expo, involving significant public and property presence within a confined area, has led the authorities to restrict additional gatherings at the venue to avoid congestion and possible safety hazards.

The letter further explained that conducting a mass rally simultaneously at the remaining portion of the ground could lead to serious crowding, traffic disruption, and even the risk of a stampede-like situation. It emphasized that the Vivekananda Ground is located in the heart of the city, with surrounding roads being vital routes for city traffic and hospital access. A large rally, therefore, could choke vehicular movement, inconvenience the public, and obstruct emergency services.

The police have advised the organizers to refrain from holding any rally or mass gathering at the said venue. However, they have been allowed to submit a fresh proposal suggesting an alternate venue or date, which will be duly considered in consultation with the relevant authorities.

The SDPO’s office appreciated the cooperation of the Youth Tipra Federation in maintaining peace, public order, and safety within the city of Agartala.
