The Hepatitis Foundation of Tripura (HFT) has been working relentlessly to eradicate the scourge of drug addiction in Tripura over and above its chosen task of Hepatitis eradicaton. Keeping this end in view the HFT last year had adopted the Purba Gokulpur village under Udaipur subdivision to make it drug-free . The adoption was celebrated last year with an ‘Alpana’ (weaving patterns on the ground in white colour) festival among women of the village.
But this year the festival took a different contour as the HFT authorities organised a ‘Pitaha-Puli’ festival so that the women of the village could showcase their skill in making the sweet dishes of ‘Pitha-Puli’ and win awards given by the HFT authorities. This had been preceded by the ‘Alpana’ festival that had commenced last year and yesterday a large number of women residents of the village took part in the competition and were later awarded in a function amidst great enthusiasm.
The ‘Alpana’ festival was followed by the ‘Pitha-Puli’ festival in which the women took the main part but the menfolk of the village extended full co-operation to them. The twin programmes were organised under the initiative and co-operation of the South Zone committee of the HFT and the members and ‘Pradhan’ of the Purba Gokulpur Gram Panchayat. Mr Partha Pratim Saha, the secretary of the HFT , Udaipur committee, informed media persons that the winners of the ‘Pitha-Puli’ festival had been selected through observation by the panel of judges and they will be given awards in a special programme within the next few days.
