As part of a preemptive measure against possible destabilizing attempts by Pakistan and Bangladesh in sensitive northeastern states of India , the union home ministry has put all state police set-ups and paramilitary forces like BSF deployed in the states on a state of high alert. The BSF units across northeast , specially in Tripura, Assam, Meghalaya have been directed to intensify vigil along the border which is still porous in many parts of the region and susceptible to infiltration of Rohingiyas and Islamist terrorists disguised as infiltrators. Similarly the police forces operating in these states have also been directed to ensure that legal action against infiltrators including Rohingiyas is taken without fail in a foolproof manner.

Highly placed sources here said that ever since the forcible installation of the illegitimate interim regime in Bangladesh headed by Md Yunus in August last year, Bangladesh has deliberately taken a hostile approach to relations with India. Their main grouse is political asylum granted to ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina by India and suspected Indian support to elements opposed to the current regime in Bangladesh dominated by Islamists. Even though the government of India has sought to dispel all misconceptions the pathologically anti-India forces that dominate the current Bangladeshi regime ‘seem determined to cut their nose to spite their face’ little realizing that the geography of a nation can not be changed and India’s towering presence as closest neighbour to Bangladesh can not just be wished away.

The illegitimate Bangladeshi establishment’s activities inimical to India took a new turn when the chairman of the Pakistan army’s joint chiefs of staff committee general Sahir Shamshad Mirza visited Dhaka and met the chied advisor Md Yunus in the latter’s office. What spooked the government of India no ends is the crude attempt by the Bangladesh government to provoke India by showing India’s northeast as part of Bangladesh. This was done in a fake map handed over by Yunus to the visiting Pakistani general. What other things transpired during the Pakistani general’s visit to Bangladesh is still not clear but highly placed sources keeping tab on developments in Bangladesh said that the infamous ISI of Pakistan and Bangladesh’s Directorate General of Forces Intelligence (DGFI) reached a formal understanding on co-operation to destabilize India. The practical manifestation of the infamous deal may be in attempts to destabilize India by yet again sponsoring anti-India outfits as Md Yunus, miffed by lack of India’s recognition to and acceptance of his illegitimate regime, had earlier tried to highlight the vulnerability of India’s northeast without access to sea.

Sources however said that Bangladesh has always been a more or less safe haven for anti-India Islamist forces and but for the brief tenure of four years of Sheikh Mujeev (1971-1975) and the long stint of Sheikh Hasina as prime minister (2009-2024) for fifteen years this India-created country has always been inimical to vital interests of India. The sponsorship of anti-India militants may start afresh on the back of the new tango between Yunus led Bangladesh and the bankrupt Pakistanis perennially wallowing in anti-India hatred. This is the reason why there is now a sense of extra urgency in union home ministry ‘s internal steps even though the lone ray of hope is that the BNP, considered a winner in the upcoming elections in Bangladesh, has so far kept away from taking an openly anti-India stand and is unlikely to do so in the foreseeable future. But the union home ministry is taking no chances in setting the country’s internal self-defence mechanism in order.
