The Congress today condemned the maladministration and patronage of corruption by the ruling BJP government , asserting that under the misrule of BJP the state has been gripped by total lawlessness . The interaction with the media today was addressed by the veteran Congress MLA Sudip Roybarman and the PCC president Asish Kumar Saha.

Sudip raised the issue of seizure of a huge stock of contraband cough syrup from a railway carriage in Jirania and said that the ongoing investigation in the matter is reaching nowhere as the investigating authority is yet to disclose the name of the addressee who had brought in this huge consignment of contraband cough syrup. “We can be reasonably sure that the actual guilty persons in this illegal import will never be caught and punished ; the investigating agency is deliberately trying to bury the issue but those responsible for this should know that lives of state’s youths are much more important than their easy money” said Sudip . He also charged the state’s crime branch and police authority with systematic efforts to hush up the fraud of Rs 16 crores of money of Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) from the United Commercial Bank. “Without active involvement of the officers and employees of AMC and the Uco bank manager and other officials this huge amount of money could not have been defrauded; but the investigation in the case is misdirected and part of an attempt to hush up the case ; there should be a fair and impartial inquiry into this case” said Sudip. He also dismissed a recent comment made by former chief minister Biplab Kumar Deb on the issue of indigenous people of the state as ‘inconsequential and uninformed and opposed the programme of ‘Tipra Motha’ proposed to be held on November 7. Sudip also called upon the state government not to give permission for the ‘Tipra Motha’ rally on November 7.

The PCC president Asish Kumar Saha who also spoke to the media persons condemned the ‘anti-democratic activities ‘ of the BJP , alleging that Congress party can not hold political programmes like meetings, rallies and processions because of the disturbances created and attacks by the BJP elements. He said that if the voice of people is continuously choked and people are forced to stay away from political activities the consequences will be serious. “These things can not go on for ever ; at one time the situation will explode into a major crisis and trouble; the people will not put up with this kind of coercion for eternity; the law is being misused and constitutional rights of people are being suppressed ; how long will this go on “ Asish asked.
