ICSSR-Sponsored National Seminar on Global Warming Held at Swami Vivekananda Mahavidyalaya, Mohanpur, Tripura West.

A two-day national seminar on “Global Warming: Understanding the Crisis, Impact, and Pathways to a Resilient Future in a Polluted World” was successfully organized by Swami Vivekananda Mahavidyalaya, Mohanpur, on the 24th and 25th of October 2025. The seminar was sponsored by the Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR), New Delhi and held in academic cooperation with the Bharatiya Itihas Sankalan Samiti (BISS), Tripura Prant. The programme commenced with registration at 10 a.m. on the first day, followed by the inaugural session presided over by Dr. Haradhan Saha, Principal of Swami Vivekananda Mahavidyalaya. The inaugural ceremony began with the lighting of the lamp and an inaugural song, setting a solemn and scholarly tone for the event.

Sri Kishor Barman, Hon’ble Minister for Higher Education, Panchayat and General Administration, Government of Tripura, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest and Inaugurator. He emphasised the need for collective efforts toward mitigating the challenges posed by climate change and environmental degradation. The Guests of Honour included Prof. Shyamal Das, Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor (In-Charge) of a Central University in Tripura, and Prof. Biplab Halder, Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor, ICFAI University, Tripura. Sri Animesh Debbarma, Director, Department of Higher Education, Government of Tripura, attended as the Special Guest. Presiding over the session, Dr. Haradhan Saha, Principal of Swami Vivekananda Mahavidyalaya, highlighted the importance of academic discourse and collaborative research in addressing global environmental issues. The Welcome Address was delivered by Dr. James Dev Verma, Convenor of the seminar, followed by a Vote of Thanks from Dr. Chandrani Debbarma, Joint Convenor.

The keynote address was delivered by Prof. Arun Jyoti Nath, Professor of Ecology and Environmental Science, Assam University, Silchar, who highlighted the intricate linkages between global warming, biodiversity loss, and sustainable development pathways. Across the two days, the seminar featured seven technical sessions; both online and offline, chaired by eminent academicians including Prof. Y.V. Krishnaiah, Dr. Abhijit Chanda, Prof. (Dr.) Debashish Sen, Dr. Dhruba Charan Hota, Prof. Nibedita Das (Pan), Prof. Manabendra Dutta Choudhury, and Dr. Mousami Debbarma. Noted scholars such as Dr. Dilip Nath, Dr. Kuldip Gosai, and several others served as resource persons. Over forty participants from various institutions across India presented their research papers on themes related to climate change, pollution, sustainable development, and environmental resilience. The discussions were thought-provoking and underscored the significance of academic engagement in addressing global ecological challenges.

The valedictory session, held on October 25, was graced by Prof. Manabendra Dutta Choudhury, Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor, Rabindranath Tagore University, Hojai, Assam, as Chief Guest. Dr. Dhruba Charan Hota, Principal, Sukanta College, West Bengal, attended as Guest of Honour, while Shri Debabrata Roy, Secretary of the Teachers’ Council, SVM Mohanpur, were present as Special Guests. Dr. Haradhan Saha, Principal, Swami Vivekananda Mahavidyalaya, and Dr. James Dev Verma, Convenor of the seminar, were also present and actively participated in the session.

The seminar concluded with reflections on the need to integrate environmental education and sustainable practices into everyday life. The event was widely appreciated for its academic rigor, participation, and commitment to addressing one of the most pressing global issues of our time.
