The chief minister Dr Manik Saha this morning laid the foundation stone of a planned 200-bed deaddiction and rehab centre and a proposed circuit house building of transport department in Bisramganj area under Sephahijala district. Both the chief minister and the BJP state president Rajeev Bhattacharjee had gone to Delhi yesterday to hold final consultation with the party’s top leadership over the appointment of ten district presidents of the party. The names have since been announced from the state BJP headquarter in Agartala’s Krishna Nagar area.

It is after his arrival from Delhi that chief minister Dr Manik Saha laid the foundation stone of the 200-bed deaddiction and rehab centre as well as the proposed transport department’s circuit house building in Bisramganj. In his speech on the occasion Dr Saha said that drug addiction has become a deep social malaise destroying the future generation of students and youths. “There is no denying the fact that over the past several years drug abuse has emerged as a major menace to the future of students, youths as well as the nation at large ; if this continues it will cause irreparable damage to the future of the nation; hence we have decided to take the bull by the horn and as part of our battle against drugs this deaddiction and rehab centre is being said” said the chief minister. His foundation stone laying was also marked by ritual ‘Bhoom Pujan’.

Dr however emphasized the fact that the government machinery including police and security forces alone can not curb the menace of drug addiction and peddling. “What is more important in our all out fight against the menace of drug is the consciousness and awareness among people and guardians at the social and familial level; unless we fight the menace of drugs as a united entity we will not be able to curb this menace by governmental effort alone” said Dr Saha. He also justified the launching of the deaddiction and rehab centre in Sepahijala by asserting that among all the districts of the state Sepahijala is the worst-affected by drug addiction and peddling. He also said that Bisramganj area’s geographical location is very crucial at the trijunction of the roads to Goamati and South Tripura districts as well as the bordering Sonamura subdivision . This is the reason why the circuit house of transport department is being set up in Bisramganj.
