Public deputation in Kailasahar police station demanding arrest of contractor Abdul Mannan and his Congress patrons

Unlike in other parts of the state the sleepy Kailasahar town, headquarter of the Unakoti district , and hits outlying areas are adversely affected by the depredations of a gang of mafia elements including a leading contractor owing allegiance to the opposition Congress. Abdul Mannan, a resident of Irani area of Kailasahar and a leading contractor aligned with Congress and the sitting Congress MLA and former PCC president Birajit Sinha is now in the centre of a massive controversy because of his unruly activities. Yesterday a large number of people of Kailasahar town politically affiliated with the BJP met in deputation with the officer in charge of Kailasahar police station and pressed for immediate arrest of Abdul Mannan and his accomplices on various charges.

According to sources from Kailasahar , the deputationists told the police officers in the Kailasahar station that Abdul Mannan and his accomplices have been prowling in Durgapur and Paitur Bazar areas near the Kailasahar town and threatening people with violence and riots as in the year 2013 in case they make any complaint about the quality of construction work he executes on government contract. Sources said that the people of the town are upset with the quality of construction work executed by Abdul Mannan in building the womens hostel in the town and the daily drinking session held by him on the construction site every night and anti-social activities there. There are also allegations that Abdul Mannan and his accomplices had harassed and humiliated a Hindu lady in Kailasahar recently and yesterday also Mannan’s accomplices created trouble in the town with sharp cutting weapons in hands.

Altogether 45 residents of Kailasahar who had signed a memorandum of complaint met in deputation with the officer in charge of Kailasahar police station Tapas Malakar and demanded drastic action against Abdul Mannan and his cohorts for disturbing peace and communal harmony in Kailasahar. They also told the officer in charge of the police station that the local MLA Birait Sinha has been acting as the patron of Abdul Mannan and demanded action against the MLA also. The complaint has been filed against altogether 9 persons including Abdul Mannan and Birajit Sinha.
