In a shocking incident, three individuals have been arrested for allegedly assaulting the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Belonia Bankar Police Station after he tried to stop a DJ performance during a public event. The OC was reportedly dragged down from the stage and physically assaulted by a group of miscreants, triggering widespread condemnation across the state.

Local sources report that the incident occurred when the police intervened to stop loud music being played late into the night. The violent mob not only obstructed the law enforcers but also attacked the OC, leading to chaos at the event site. Police have since arrested three persons involved in the attack and assured that further investigations are ongoing.

However, questions have been raised over the apparent disparity in law enforcement response, as no arrests have yet been made in the earlier incidents involving life-threatening attacks on a Block Development Officer (BDO), a Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO), and an engineer in Kamalpur incidents.

Observers note that this selective speed in investigation highlights a concerning bias in the system, suggesting that certain victims or cases are given more priority than others.

Social media users and civil society activists have strongly condemned the assault on the police officer. They also criticized what they call a spineless section within the police force whose inaction emboldens miscreants.

Many have demanded strict legal action against all those involved, emphasizing that if even police officers are not safe from violent elements, common citizens will lose faith in both the law and the administration.

The incident has once again brought to the forefront questions of accountability, equal justice, and the rule of law in Tripura.
