In a significant healthcare initiative, the Department of Ophthalmology at Tripura Medical College (TMC) has launched a free cataract surgery program with financial support from NTPC and NEEPCO. The two central public sector undertakings have jointly sanctioned Rs. 22.80 lakh to facilitate 150 cataract surgeries using high-quality intraocular lenses.

The project was formally inaugurated today by Dr. P. Roy, Chairman of the Society, Tripura Medical College, and Mr. Swapan Saha, Chief Executive Officer of TMC, in the presence of several senior NEEPCO officials and members of the TMC administration.

Speaking at the event, Dr. AK Chakma, Head of the Ophthalmology Department, expressed gratitude to NTPC and NEEPCO for their generous contribution, emphasizing that the initiative would greatly benefit underprivileged patients suffering from cataract-related vision problems.

Dr. AK Chakma further informed that a total of 150 cataract operations will be performed free of cost on a first-come, first-served basis, ensuring that patients receive advanced eye care with premium-quality lenses.

The program marks a collaborative step towards enhancing eye health services in Tripura and reflects the commitment of both NTPC and NEEPCO toward corporate social responsibility and community welfare.
