Political Tug of Claims: BJP’s Massive Joining Drive in Mungiakami vs TIPRA Motha’s Opposition-Free Hills Goal, CM Manik Saha Hits Out at Bandh Violence

In a day of contrasting political claims, the political atmosphere of Tripura turned charged as both the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the TIPRA Motha put forward bold assertions about their growing strength across the state.

At a large joining event yesterday held in Mungiakami under Krishnapur constituency, BJP MLA and Minister Bikas Debbarma claimed that 2,100 families, comprising 6,460 voters, formally joined the BJP yesterday. The grand event was attended by Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha and Tripura BJP President Rajib Bhattacharjee, who welcomed the new members into the party.

Minister Bikas Debbarma asserted that the people’s faith in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership and Chief Minister Dr. Saha’s governance is continuously strengthening, especially in the hilly and tribal-dominated areas.

However, in a sharp counter-narrative, TIPRA Motha leader Kamal Koloi claimed that his party is on the verge of making the TTAADC (Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council) areas opposition-free, signaling a growing consolidation of tribal support for TIPRA Motha.

This political tug-of-war between the BJP and TIPRA Motha has once again highlighted the intense competition for influence in Tripura’s tribal heartland.

During yesterday's event, Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha also reacted strongly to the violence that took place during the Statewide Bandh on October 23, called by the Civil Society of Tripura. He said that It was a so-called peaceful movement under the leadership of one person, but their true nature is now clear to everyone.

The Chief Minister condemned the acts of violence and emphasized that the state government would not tolerate any attempt to disturb peace and stability in Tripura.

As both political forces, BJP and TIPRA Motha, continue to claim expanding influence, the real test will unfold in the coming months as the parties prepare for the next electoral battle in the state’s tribal and semi-urban area's.
