Fund Embezzlement: FIR filed against Tripura Rural Development engineer

An FIR was filed against one Bimal Das, an engineer of the Rural Development department for misappropriation of funds allocated for development works in the rural areas. Block Development Officer Jolaibari under South Tripura district filed the formal complaint with the Baikhora Police station. Examining the gravity of the charges, the case was immediately transferred to Jolaibari police outpost. According to police, On January 10, Manas Bhattacharjee, the Block Development Officer (BDO) of Jolaibari, filed a written complaint at the Baikhora Police Station, accusing Bimal Das of financial irregularities. Baikhora Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Bishnu Chandra Das informed the media today that the case has been registered as Case No. 1 of 2025. The accused has been charged under Sections 318(2) BNS and 316(5) BNS. It has been reported that Bimal Das misappropriated Rs 7,91,699 by not constructing seven cattle sheds in two areas under Jolaibari rural development block area. Allegations of financial irregularities against Bimal Das had surfaced earlier as well, with reports suggesting he had been entrusted with 100 projects since joining Jolaibari Block out of which only five projects had been completed so far. Das failed to explain as to where the funds had been allocated. The investigation into this case has been handed over to Jolaibari Police Outpost Officer-in-Charge, Sub-Inspector Khokan Das. Similar allegations of financial misconduct have also been raised against Sapan Sarkar, an engineer in the Bogafa RD Block. It is alleged that Sapan Sarkar has been involved in corruption in various projects over several years.
