Amidst acute shortage of teaching staff in almost all schools in the state the unplanned transfer of popular and efficient teachers have long become a major issue but the education department of the state , specially its district units and inspectorates never care for the interest of students and their opinions. Yesterday the students of Ramraibari HS school under Jolaibari police station of south Tripura resorted to a road blockade programme in protest against the transfer of popular teachers Pramod Ranjan Bhowmik and Jayanta Majumder. The blockade had been launched on the Jolaibari-Hrishyamukh road but it was withdrawn at the assurance of the school management committee .
But today after going to school the students came to know that their favourite teachers had left the school on transfer and new teachers had joined in their place. The students today launched a fresh road blockade programme but were abused by the officer in charge of Jolaibari police outpost Khokan Das and officer in charge of Baikhora police station Vishnu Das. Later when the students were seated on the blockade on the Jolaibari-Hrishymukh road they were brutally lathi-charged by the ASI of Baikhora police station Maran Baidya who had only carried out the order for lathi-charge given by the OC Vishnu Das. The police officers also abused the students as activists of CPI (M) without any rhyme or reason and threatened that they would be expelled from the school.
As a result of the lathi-charge twelve students sustained injuries and were rushed to Ramraibari primary health centre for treatment and they are still there. The lathi-charge on students has sparked angry reaction from the student community as well as from their guardians who demanded action against the errant police officers, Maran Baidya and Vishnu Das. The guardians also demanded immediate intervention into the case by the higher level officials of the state government including the DGP and punishment for the guilty officers.
