The state police is beefing up security measures all over the state , particularly in capital town, Agartala in view of tomorrow’s twenty four hour Tripura bandh called by civil society organizations as a proxy for ‘Tipra Motha’ under the leadership of MLA Ranjit Debbarma. Police and paramilitary forces including the TSR jawans will be posted at all sensitive points to prevent any untoward incident as the volunteers of civil society or , inter alia, the ‘Tipra Motha’ will launch picketing in front of all government offices under the leadership of Ranjit Debbarma whose relationship with ‘Motha’ supremo Pradyot Kishore is like what exists between ‘Modi and Amit Shah’.

The bandh has been called by the so-called civil society in protest against illegal infiltration of Bangladeshi nationals and ‘Rohingiyas’ as well as to press for strict enforcement of the circular issued by the union ministry of home affairs (MHA) for identification, detention and deportation of such elements from Tripura. The sponsors of the ‘bandh’ including Ranjit stated categorically that ceaseless infiltration from Bangladesh pose a major threat to socio-economic and political stability of Tripura as a whole and tribal areas in particular. “There is a genuine and glaring threat to Tripura’s demographic balance which is already against the indigenous tribals ; the threat to tribal land is also looming ; so infiltration has to stop” said Ranjit in an informal chat with a media outlet.

However, the bandh sponsors have given exemption to emergency services like the Ambulance, Fire Brigade, Milk supply etc and there will be no picketing to stop these services. The state government has already issued an order declaring that all government and private services will remain in normal state tomorrow , 23rd October but , rather strangely, the ruling BJP has made no statement on the issue of tomorrow’s bandh , nor has the ruling party given any indication whether there will be any attempt to go for counter-picketing against tomorrow’s ‘bandh’.

Speaking on the issue of infiltration the chief minister Dr Manik Saha said in the just-concluded assembly session that over the past three years 3500 Bangladeshi infiltrators and Rohingiyas had been arrested by police and among them more than 95% had been pushed back following legal procedure. The remaining ones are also being prepared for push-back after court orders, the chief minister said.
