Tripura MLA Seeks Probe into Mysterious Death of Khowai Student in Uttar Pradesh, Family Appeals for Justice

A wave of grief and concern has swept across Tripura following the mysterious death of 15-year-old Jwel Debbarma, a student from Ampura Bazar, Khowai District, who was studying at Hanuman Prasad Satyanarayan Poddar Higher Secondary School and Inter College, Rambagh, Chunar, Mirzapur in Uttar Pradesh.Jwel, son of Sri Mantu Debbarma, was a promising Class IX student residing in the school’s hostel. His father stated that during a recent visit, his son appeared cheerful and in good health. However, within days, the family received a shocking message that Jwel had fallen critically ill and was admitted to the ICU. Soon after, they were informed of his untimely death.
According to school authorities, the boy allegedly drowned in a pond located outside the school campus. The local police in Uttar Pradesh reported that Jwel had accidentally slipped into a water-filled pit while sitting with three other students, Dukhamat Dam from Arunachal Pradesh, Auwatam Koch from Meghalaya, and Yang Chiwen from Assam.
Unconvinced by the unclear circumstances surrounding the death, Jwel’s father lodged a formal appeal to Ranjit Debbarma, MLA of 24-Ramchandraghat Assembly Constituency, seeking his urgent intervention for a thorough and impartial investigation, as well as assistance in bringing his son’s body back to Tripura.Taking prompt action, MLA Ranjit Debbarma has written to the Director General of Police (DGP), Government of Tripura, urging for a comprehensive probe in coordination with the Uttar Pradesh Police to uncover the truth behind the boy’s tragic and mysterious demise. The MLA stressed the importance of a meticulous investigation to ensure justice for the bereaved family.
Following the MLA’s intervention, the Director General of Tripura Police coordinated with his Uttar Pradesh counterpart to facilitate the safe and smooth transportation of the student’s body. The body of Jwel Debbarma reached Agartala today, bringing both sorrow and a renewed call for transparency and accountability in the investigation.
The family, heartbroken and seeking justice, has appealed to the authorities for a fair inquiry into the circumstances leading to the death of their young son, a case that has now sparked widespread concern and sympathy across Tripura.
