BJP to Take Stern Action Against Boxanagar MLA Tafazzal Hossain for Remarks on Biplab Deb and Pratima Bhowmik: Rajib Bhattacharjee

A major political storm has erupted within the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Tripura after Boxanagar MLA Tafazzal Hossain made controversial remarks targeting former Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb and former Union Minister Pratima Bhowmik.

Speaking to a television channel in Agartala this afternoon, BJP State President Rajib Bhattacharjee said the party will take strict disciplinary action against Tafazzal Hossain for his comments. “Biplab Deb, Pratima Bhowmik, and Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha are our respected leaders. The party will not tolerate indecent or derogatory remarks against any of them,” Bhattacharjee stated. He added that the top leadership would soon hold a meeting to decide on stern measures against the Boxanagar legislator.

The controversy began when Tafazzal Hossain, during a recent public event, launched a scathing attack on Biplab Deb and Pratima Bhowmik while ostensibly praising Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha. He accused the former leaders of neglecting public commitments, including the alleged failure to provide funds for local playground development. His sarcastic and emotionally charged comments stunned the audience and drew visible discomfort from BJP leaders present at the event.

Political observers described the incident as a dramatic display of factionalism within the BJP, symbolizing the decline of unity once associated with the party’s leadership. Despite sitting beside Tafazzal Hossain during the remarks, State BJP President Rajib Bhattacharjee’s silence drew sharp criticism, with many interpreting it as a sign of weak organizational control.

The latest controversy adds to growing signs of internal discord within the Tripura BJP. In recent months, ministers have admitted to corruption in public, others have made divisive religious remarks, and now a sitting MLA has openly targeted senior party leaders.

This is not the first time Tafazzal Hossain has been embroiled in controversy. His name had earlier appeared in a bank fraud case, and a local BJP mandal vice-president once accused him of cattle smuggling. Following his recent comments, BJP youth leaders loyal to Biplab Deb have reportedly threatened to burn his effigy if the party fails to act against him.

Political analysts describe the ongoing turmoil as a political circus within the Tripura BJP where every faction is performing its own act, while the party’s image continues to take a beating. The episode has once again exposed widening cracks within the ruling party, raising serious concerns over its internal discipline, leadership unity, and future coherence ahead of upcoming elections.
