Tripura BJP in Turmoil: Boxanagar MLA Tafazzal Hossain Praises CM Manik Saha While Attacking Biplab Deb and Pratima Bhowmik Sparks Outrage Across State

A major controversy has erupted in Tripura’s ruling BJP after Boxanagar MLA Tafazzal Hossain launched a scathing verbal attack on former Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb and former Union Minister Pratima Bhowmik during a recent public event. The remarks, made in the presence of State BJP President Rajib Bhattacharjee, have triggered widespread criticism both within and outside the party.

While attempting to praise Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha for his leadership, MLA Tafazzal Hossain indirectly mocked and condemned Biplab Deb and Pratima Bhowmik, accusing them of failing to keep promises and neglecting commitments related to public welfare, including alleged lapses in providing funds for playground development. His sharp, sarcastic tone and emotional delivery stunned the audience and left party leaders visibly uneasy.

Observers described the scene as a political drama on stage, with Tafazzal’s words being seen as an open funeral rite of the Biplab–Pratima era in the BJP. Despite being seated beside him, BJP State President Rajib Bhattacharjee remained silent throughout, a gesture many interpret as highlighting his own leadership weakness and inability to control the growing internal discord.

The incident has amplified the perception of deep infighting within the Tripura BJP. From ministers admitting to corruption in public, to others making controversial religious remarks, and now an MLA attacking senior leaders, the ruling party appears increasingly divided.

This is not the first time Tafazzal Hossain has found himself in controversy. His name had earlier surfaced in a bank fraud case, and a local BJP mandal vice-president once publicly labeled him as a cattle smuggler. Following his latest outburst, angry BJP youth leaders loyal to Biplab Deb have reportedly threatened to burn his effigy if the party fails to take disciplinary action.

Political analysts say the current state of affairs in the BJP resembles a political circus, where each performer is playing their own act while the audience struggles to decide whether to laugh or run away.

The episode has once again exposed the widening cracks within the Tripura BJP, raising serious questions about unity and discipline in the party that once prided itself on organizational strength and collective leadership.
