Even after three days of the massive drug seizure at Jirania Railway Station, the identity of the consignment’s owner remains unknown. Opposition leaders like Jitendra Chaudhury, Ashish Saha, Sudip Roy Barman have raised serious questions about whether any meaningful investigation is actually taking place. Despite the scale of the incident, one of the largest narcotics hauls in recent times, Tripura Police has not yet announced the formation of any Special Investigation Team (SIT). The case continues to be handled by the Railway Police, but sources indicate that the investigation has made little progress so far.
According to officials, all goods transported through railway routes are required to be accompanied by proper documentation. Given that the narcotics were brought through railway property, identifying the individuals or entities involved should not have been difficult. However, police have so far failed to reveal who was behind the transportation of such a large quantity of narcotic substances.
Initially, police sources indicated that the consignment belonged to a company named Ghosh Logistic. However, investigators are now doubtful whether such a company even exists. This has further deepened the mystery, with many believing that the investigation has already lost direction at its very outset. Questions have also been raised about whether there is any external pressure influencing the course of the probe.
In a new twist, another consignment of narcotic cough syrup was recovered at Jirania Railway Station on Saturday. About 17,000 bottles of Eskuf cough syrup were found from packages stored in the railway godown, part of the same freight train from which 90,000 bottles were seized last Thursday. Police now suspect that more narcotic materials might still be hidden within the station premises.
Workers involved in the loading and unloading of the railway wagons stated that a total of five wagons carrying narcotics had arrived. Out of these, only three could be removed before the seizure, while the rest were discovered later.
Sources further claim that narcotics shipments under the same agency’s name had previously arrived through Jirania station multiple times. It is alleged that a powerful political leader is involved in the illegal import of these substances, which were intended for smuggling into Bangladesh.
Based on secret intelligence, Tripura Police managed to intercept the wagons and seize the massive drug consignment. However, the police’s failure to identify and arrest the main culprits behind the operation has triggered widespread criticism on social media. Many citizens have accused the authorities of shielding influential figures connected to the drug racket, demanding a transparent and impartial investigation into the case.
