Even after the recovery of cough syrup worth several crores of rupees from a railway wagon at Jirania railway station in Tripura, the state police are yet to unravel how such a massive consignment of narcotics entered the state through the wagon route. The case has triggered widespread concern across Tripura, with questions mounting over the efficiency and direction of the ongoing police investigation.

Leader of the Opposition, Jitendra Choudhury, though yet to officially question the police probe, hinted at possible political backing and collusion behind the drug racket. Taking to his social media platform yesterday, he wrote, “Was the registration of Ghosh Logistics done on another planet? If not, why is the police taking so long to reach his house?” — a sharp remark implying a deliberate delay or influence in the investigation process.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha, in his social media post today, outlined the state’s ongoing anti-narcotics operations, asserting that the Tripura Police, in coordination with intelligence agencies, have intensified the crackdown on drug trafficking over the past ten days.

According to the Chief Minister, the police have seized the following items during this period: Ganja (cannabis): 896 kg, Cough syrup bottles: 90,617, Yaba tablets: 180 and Heroin: 27.78 grams. A total of 15 NDPS cases have been registered, and 16 accused individuals have been arrested so far.

The Chief Minister reaffirmed his government’s “Zero Tolerance Policy” against drugs, stating that the administration is determined to free the state from the curse of narcotics and bring all key players of the drug network to justice.

He emphasized, “Our government is committed to gifting a drug-free future to the youth of Tripura through firm adherence to the Zero Tolerance policy.”

The case involving the massive drug consignment remains under investigation, and the mystery surrounding its entry route through railway wagons continues to raise serious questions about inter-state coordination, security lapses, and possible internal complicity.
