Bangladesh has lodged a strong protest with India over the killing of three of its nationals in Tripura’s Khowai district, calling the incident a serious violation of human rights.

In a statement issued on Friday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Dhaka condemned the killings as a “heinous and unacceptable act” and urged New Delhi to conduct an impartial and transparent probe. The victims — Jual Miah, Sajal Miah and Pandit Miah — were lynched by residents of Bidyabil village on October 15 after allegedly crossing the border to steal cattle.

Reports said the trio, armed with sharp weapons, attacked villagers when confronted, triggering a violent clash that left them dead. Dhaka expressed deep concern, demanding justice for the victims and measures to prevent similar incidents.

“The Government of Bangladesh expects the perpetrators to be identified and brought to justice,” the statement said, adding that every individual, irrespective of nationality, deserves protection of life and dignity.

A flag meeting between the Border Security Force (BSF) and Border Guards Bangladesh (BGB) was held on October 16, following which the bodies were handed over to Bangladeshi authorities.
