Tripura has achieved a historic milestone in tribal development by securing multiple prestigious national awards at the National Conclave on Adi Karmayogi Abhiyan, held today at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi. The event, organized by the Ministry of Tribal Affairs under the Viksit Bharat initiative, was graced by the Hon’ble President of India, Smt. Droupadi Murmu, and attended by Union Minister for Tribal Affairs Shri Jual Oram and Minister of State Shri Durgadas Uikey. The conclave celebrated excellence in tribal governance and recognized outstanding performances under flagship initiatives such as PM-JANMAN, Dharti Aaba Janbhagidari Abhiyan (DAJA), and Adi Karmayogi Abhiyan.
The Office of the Director, Tribal Welfare, Government of Tripura, said that the state was conferred with two prestigious national titles 'Best Performing State' in the implementation of PM-JANMAN and Best Performing State under the Dharti Aaba Janbhagidari Abhiyan. These awards were received by Dr. K. Sasikumar, IFS, Secretary, Tribal Welfare Department, from the Hon’ble President. Additionally, North Tripura District was declared Best Performing District under PM-JANMAN, with District Magistrate and Collector Ms. Chandni Chandran, IAS, receiving the award. Gomati District was honoured for its exceptional performance under both Adi Karmayogi Abhiyan and DAJA, while Unakoti and Dhalai Districts also received national recognition for their impactful contributions under DAJA.
The Office of the Director, Tribal Welfare, said that Tripura's achievements reflect the state’s focused and inclusive approach to tribal development, particularly through effective implementation at the grassroots level. Under PM-JANMAN, the state has completed the construction of 15,584 houses, with an additional 1,632 currently under construction. Furthermore, 141 new Anganwadi Centres have been made operational, 38,014 PVTG households have received functional tap water connections, and electricity has been provided to 11,692 households through grid connectivity and 1,051 through solar grids. The state has also installed 10 mobile network towers, constructed 18 multipurpose centres (with 32 more in progress), operationalized 30 Van Dhan Vikas Kendras, and initiated construction of 67 rural roads spanning 205 kilometers.
Launched on 15th June 2025, the Dharti Aaba Janbhagidari Abhiyan has emerged as the country’s largest tribal empowerment campaign. The Office of the Director, Tribal Welfare, highlighted that Tripura's unique saturation camp model has been instrumental in reaching tribal populations effectively. A total of 4,036 camps have been conducted, reaching over 12.7 lakh tribal citizens. These camps provided critical services such as identity documentation, financial inclusion, health coverage, and access to various social welfare benefits. To strengthen district-level coordination, the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Tripura designated one Minister as Prabhari for each district, ensuring responsive and well-coordinated implementation.
The Office further stated that the Adi Karmayogi Abhiyan, guided by the values of Sewa (service), Samarpan (dedication), and Sankalp (commitment), has transformed tribal governance by empowering communities in 392 tribal-dominated revenue villages to develop and lead their own localized development plans. This citizen-led approach marks a significant departure from traditional scheme delivery models, promoting co-creation between the government and tribal communities.
Tripura's recognition at the national level is a reflection of the visionary leadership of the Tripura Chief Minister and the dedication of the Chief Secretary, Secretaries, Heads of Departments, District Magistrates, and field-level officers. The Office of the Director, Tribal Welfare, said that these awards not only celebrate the state's past accomplishments but also reaffirm its commitment to dignity, inclusion, and transformative development for every tribal citizen in the state.
