A fifth-semester student of Ramthakur College has been suspended after a video showing her kicking a classmate during a public altercation went viral on social media. The incident occurred on October 15 and was recorded by other students on their mobile phones.
The footage, widely circulated online, sparked criticism and reportedly tarnished the college’s image, prompting the authorities to initiate disciplinary action. Before approaching the college, the victim had visited the local police station to file a complaint. Police officials advised her to first inform the college administration about the matter.
Following their suggestion, the student, accompanied by her parents, met principal Papri Das Sengupta and sought her intervention. The college later suspended the accused student for a few days as per institutional norms.
Speaking about the incident, the principal said such disputes among students are not unusual but should not be shared publicly. “At this age, students often argue or fight but usually reconcile later. However, when such incidents are uploaded online, they unnecessarily harm the reputation of the institution,” Sengupta remarked.
