In a major anti-narcotics operation, police seized a full railway wagon loaded with Eskuf cough syrup worth several crores of rupees—at Jirania Railway Station late Thursday night. Acting on a tip-off, law enforcement officers raided the area and discovered cartons of Eskuf syrup stacked inside the freight coach. The unloading of the seized contraband continued till late into the night under tight security surveillance.
According to confidential sources, the massive consignment is allegedly connected to a prominent nationalist political leader from the Jirania area. The same leader was previously accused of facilitating the illegal import of Eskuf syrup via trucks, several of which had been intercepted in earlier police operations. However, due to alleged misuse of political power, he reportedly managed to evade arrest on multiple occasions.
This time, instead of using trucks, the network allegedly shifted to transporting the banned syrup through railway goods trains, a move apparently intended to avoid police scrutiny on highways.
Despite the huge recovery, police officials have remained tight-lipped about the case, refusing to disclose details about the owner of the seized goods or any potential arrests. As of 10 PM, no official confirmation has been made regarding the detention of any suspects linked to the consignment.
Local residents, however, expressed their frustration and anger, claiming that such illegal drug shipments have been arriving in Jirania for years with the backing of powerful political figures.
“If the intelligence department could get advance information about the shipment arriving by train, surely they also know who owns the consignment,” questioned one local resident. “Why is the main accused still walking free?”
The incident has sparked widespread public outrage in the Jirania area, with citizens demanding transparent investigation and strict action against those involved in the drug smuggling network.
