In a major step towards fulfilling the vision of Viksit Tripura, Viksit Bharat as envisioned by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, a significant meeting was held today at Rail Bhawan, New Delhi, with Union Cabinet Minister for Railways, Communications, Electronics & Information Technology, Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw and Chief Minister of Tripura Dr Manik Saha.

The meeting was aimed at accelerating Tripura’s overall infrastructural and technological development, particularly in the areas of railway connectivity, digital advancement, and creative industry growth. The discussions covered a series of forward-looking projects that promise to reshape Tripura’s connectivity and digital ecosystem in the coming years.

During the interaction, both sides reviewed the current progress of ongoing projects and emphasized the need for faster execution and innovation to align with the national developmental goals under Viksit Bharat@2047. The meeting highlighted several transformative initiatives planned for Tripura, which are expected to greatly enhance regional connectivity, employment, and industrial growth.

Key Initiatives Discussed:

Initiation of Vande Bharat Express Between Agartala and Guwahati

This much-awaited project will connect Tripura’s capital with the key northeastern hub of Guwahati, ensuring faster, more comfortable, and modern travel for passengers. It will also play a vital role in improving trade, tourism, and regional integration across the Northeast.

Doubling of Railway Tracks

To accommodate growing traffic and ensure smoother movement of trains, the doubling of railway tracks across Tripura was a major focus. This step will enhance capacity, reduce travel time, and ensure better connectivity between Tripura and the rest of the country.

Running of Electric Trains

The introduction of electric trains in Tripura will mark a significant leap towards a greener and more sustainable transportation system. Electrification of railway lines will not only reduce carbon emissions but also bring down operational costs and increase efficiency.

Introduction of New and Upgraded Coaches

The meeting also discussed modernizing long-distance trains by introducing upgraded coaches with better passenger facilities and safety standards. Plans for improved maintenance and beautification of railway stations were also highlighted to enhance passenger experience.

New Building for TFTI and Development of Film City

To encourage media, culture, and creative industries, the construction of a new building for the Tripura Film and Television Institute (TFTI) and the development of a Film City were discussed. These initiatives will promote media education, film production, and employment opportunities for young talents in Tripura.

Further Development of Call Centers

Recognizing Tripura’s potential in the IT-enabled services sector, further expansion and development of call centers were discussed. This initiative aims to generate large-scale employment for the youth while strengthening Tripura’s position as a digital hub in the Northeast.

Enhancement of Cyber Security Hub

To ensure data safety and strengthen Tripura’s IT ecosystem, plans to enhance the state’s Cyber Security Hub were discussed. The upgraded center will focus on building advanced digital defense infrastructure and training professionals in cybersecurity.

The meeting concluded with a strong assurance of continued central support to Tripura’s development journey. Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw appreciated the ongoing progress in the state and reaffirmed the Union Government’s commitment to modernizing Tripura’s railway, digital, and infrastructure sectors.

These initiatives, once implemented, are expected to significantly boost Tripura’s economy, improve connectivity, and create a strong foundation for a Viksit Tripura—a developed, self-reliant, and digitally empowered state contributing to the vision of a Viksit Bharat.
