In a major anti-narcotics operation today, Teliamura police seized dry ganja worth around one crore rupees from two luxury vehicles, a Tata Safari and a Scorpio in the Mungiakami and Champlai areas under Khowai district.
According to a senior police official from Khowai, the vehicles were intercepted after a chase by the Mungiakami Police Station team. Upon inspection, police found several packets of dry ganja hidden inside the cars. One of the vehicles bore a PRESS sticker, while the other displayed a BJP flag, raising further suspicion about misuse of identity and symbols.
Local sources in Teliamura revealed that the indiscriminate use of PRESS stickers on private vehicles and bikes has become alarmingly common in recent times. “Nowadays, anyone with a mobile phone and a Facebook page calls themselves a journalist,” said a senior journalist, highlighting how fake press identities are being misused.
Police sources confirmed that one of the car drivers has been arrested in connection with the case, and 580 kilograms of ganja were seized during the operation. The incident took place under the jurisdiction of the Mungiakami Police Station in Khowai district.
Meanwhile, the growing misuse of “fake press IDs” has triggered outrage among social circles. Citizens expressed concern over self-proclaimed journalists who run dubious social media pages and YouTube channels, allegedly engaging in illegal activities under the guise of journalism.
