Pradyot forecasts assumption of power by a tribal chief minister in 2028 and blockade against mainstream parties in ADC areas

Emboldened by indulgent endorsements of an ignoramus central BJP leadership and organizational atrophy of the party’s state unit , cunning Pradyot , in perennial pursuit of personal and familial agenda , today made a crucial announcement : in 2028 Tripura shall have a tribal chief minister . This grandiose proclamation was made in a joining programme of the ‘Tipra Motha’, actually Pradyot’s personal fief , in the Rabindra Shata Varshiki Bhawan this afternoon when 1223 voters belonging to 316 tribal and non-tribal families joined the party banner. Stranger still is Pradyot’s second announcement that in the upcoming elections to the ADC and Village Committees-counterparts of Panchayats in the plainlands- mainstream parties like the ruling BJP and opposition CPI (M) and Congress will not be allowed to enter the fray. However, he condescended to announce that he is open to holding discussion with the tribal-based IPFT in case they are keen to contest the upcoming elections, certainly as a junior and insignificant lackey to Pradyot and his party.

The joining programme held today was adorned by the presence of ‘Tipra Motha’ stalwarts Bijay Kumar Hrangkhawal, minister for forest Animesh Debbarma, ADC’s chief executive member (CEM) Purna Chandra Jamatya and others. Many in ‘Tipra Motha’ do not see eye to eye with Pradyot on a host of issues but have to cling to his coat-tails as they bank on Pradyot’s so-called dynastic dividend. Despite realization of the realities and potential danger signals, these leaders can not shirk the politics of exclusionary ethno-centrism , staple of Tripura’s ethnically polarized regional politics, weaponised afresh by Pradyot seemingly resting on the false certitude of security.

At the beginning of today’s programme the junior leaders of ‘Tipra Motha’ including veteran Bijay Kumar Hrangkhawal had spoken eloquently on a host of tribal related issues and deprivation of indigenous people by both the state and central governments. But then the cudgel was taken up by Pradyot who cited the instance of altogether 37 bills lying unassented by the successive governors of the state. “Only one bill pertaining to customary laws of the Jamatya community has been returned to ADC with assent; it is a glaring mistreatment of ADC for partisan reasons and this can not be put up with any longer” said Pradyot. He naturally kept from referring to the utilization of funds given by the state government and where they have all gone to what end. How they will react to regular audit of ADC funds at the grassroot level in tribal interest also escaped his attention by the natural process. No reaction was immediately available from any political party including BJP to Pradyot’s rambling declarations.
