In a groundbreaking step towards sustainable water management, the District Magistrate of North Tripura, Chandni Chandran, has announced a first-of-its-kind initiative in the state, ‘Uttar Jal Sanchay Yatra’, aimed at constructing 50,000 soak pits within just two days. The ambitious mission, scheduled for November 3 and 4, 2025, marks a major milestone in Tripura’s journey toward water conservation and environmental sustainability.

Taking to her official Facebook page, District Magistrate Chandni Chandran wrote: “Uttar Jal Sanchay Yatra - Let’s Save Every Drop! The District Administration, North Tripura is set to launch a historic mission, 50,000 soak pits in just 2 days! Mark these dates, because together we will make water conservation a people’s movement!”

She emphasized that while soak pits may appear simple, their impact is powerful, they help rainwater seep into the ground, reduce the risk of flooding, and improve soil health and agriculture.

Earlier in the day, a demonstration of soak pit construction was held at the District Magistrate’s residence in the presence of senior officials, including the Additional District Magistrate (PP), Member Secretary of Swachh Bharat Mission (SBM), and members of the Swachh Bharat team. The demonstration video has been shared on social media to inspire citizens across North Tripura to participate actively in the mission.

DM Ms. Chandran further urged citizens to join hands in this campaign: “Now, we need YOU! Join this mission in your home, your village, your institution. Together, let’s make Uttar Jal Sanchay Yatra a historic success.”

The initiative aims to make water conservation a mass movement and aligns with the national call to “Catch the rain where it falls.” The North Tripura District Administration has partnered with several government departments and organizations, including Swachh Bharat Mission (SBM-G), MyGov Tripura, RD Department, and TRLM, to implement this massive campaign efficiently.

The ‘Uttar Jal Sanchay Yatra’ is expected to significantly enhance groundwater recharge, strengthen local ecosystems, and promote community-driven efforts for a water-secure North Tripura.
