Deeply shaken by the tragic death of ten-year-old Abhirup Nath, local MLA Sailendra Chandra Nath has demanded the strictest possible legal action against the accused and urged a sustained crackdown on drunk-driving and drug-related crime in North Tripura.

Sailendra Chandra Nath visited the bereaved family and expressed his condolences, assuring them that he will stand by them “until justice is delivered.” According to the MLA’s written demand to the Superintendent of Police, North Tripura, the accused — identified publicly as Souvik Nath — should be charged under sections 105 and 106 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. The MLA has asked authorities to ensure the maximum penalty is imposed on the person responsible for the hit-and-run that claimed Abhirup’s life.

In his letter to the SP, the MLA highlighted local reports and preliminary findings that the accused was allegedly under the influence of alcohol at the time of the incident. He requested prompt filing of a charge sheet and insisted on judicial custody of the accused until a final judgment is delivered. The MLA also pressed for a fast-track trial so justice can be served without delay.

Beyond seeking punishment in this specific case, the MLA urged the police to institute regular “Drunk and Drive” checking exercises across North Tripura district and to strengthen surveillance and movement tracking of suspected drug peddlers. He called for installation of CCTV cameras at vulnerable locations for round-the-clock monitoring and for enhanced policing to curb a reported rise in drug use and related illegal trade that, he warned, is affecting youth and public safety.

The MLA has also submitted appeals to Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha and the state home department, requesting stronger law-and-order measures and intensified anti-drug operations in North Tripura. He described Abhirup’s death as not only a family tragedy but a loss for the entire community, and pledged to continue the fight until those responsible face the full consequences of the law.

Local residents welcomed the MLA’s support for the family and his demands for tougher enforcement, while urging quick and transparent action from law enforcement. The next steps are expected to include police investigation updates, possible filing of formal charges, and community calls for road-safety and anti-drug interventions.

“Abhirup’s death is a wound to society. We will not rest until justice is done,” the MLA said, reiterating solidarity with the victim’s family.
