A 24-hour statewide Tripura Bandh has been called for October 23, 2024, in support of the demands related to the rights and protection of the indigenous Tiprasa people. The announcement was made by Tipra Motha MLA MLA Ranjit Debbarma during a press conference on Thursday.

Debbarma clarified that the bandh, which was initially planned for October 13, has now been rescheduled to October 23. He emphasized that although the bandh has been called for the greater interest of the Tiprasa community with the same demands of Tipra Motha, it is not officially linked to the TIPRA Motha party, he said.

During the press conference, a detailed Charter of Demands was also circulated, highlighting several key points, including:

1. Immediate administrative operations to identify illegal foreign migrants in Tripura in compliance with the Ministry of Home Affairs directives.

2. Construction of Detention Camps in every district at the earliest.

3. Formation of a Special Task Force involving BSF and Assam Rifles to address illegal infiltration.

4. Implementation of the Inner Line Permit (ILP) system in Tripura to curb illegal entry.

5. Execution of the Tri-Partite Tiprasa Accord at the earliest.

6. Declaration of Roman Script for writing the Kokborok language.

7. Cancellation of all fake and fabricated Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe certificates.

8. Early implementation of the Tri-Partite Agreement signed on September 4, 2024, between the Government of India, Government of Tripura, and the NLFT and ATTF groups.

The bandh call has drawn significant attention across the state, with discussions ongoing about its possible impact on public life and administration.

MLA Ranjit Debbarma reiterated that the bandh is a peaceful democratic movement aimed at urging both the State and Central Governments to act on the long-pending issues affecting the indigenous people of Tripura.
