Tension continues to mount in Ambassa under Dhalai district as a new complaint has emerged against Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Rinku Reang, this time from a contractual teacher and Booth Level Officer (BLO), Sushen Baidya, who has submitted a written request seeking release from his assigned BLO duties.
In a handwritten letter dated 26th September 2025, addressed to the SDM of Ambassa Sub-Division, Sushen Baidya stated that he has been facing mental distress and health complications reportedly caused by work-related pressure and alleged ill-treatment. In the letter, written partly in Bengali and English, Baidya mentioned that he has been serving as a BLO as well as Teacher-in-Charge at Birendranagar School.
He claimed that due to continuous stress and mental anxiety, his health has deteriorated, and a doctor has advised him to refrain from official work for the time being. Hence, he requested to be released temporarily from BLO duties. The letter, signed by Sushen Baidya himself, was submitted from Ambassa on the stated date.
Meanwhile, Baidya’s wife has also accused SDM Rinku Reang of repeated mental harassment and humiliation, which she alleges has led to her husband’s current illness and hospitalization at Dhalai District Hospital. This marks the second such controversy involving the same SDM within just 28 days, according to sources close to the local administration.
However, officials from the Ambassa SDM Office have given a contrasting version. They assert that Sushen Baidya has a known psychiatric condition and has previously been involved in spreading defamatory claims against the SDM. According to official sources, SDM Rinku Reang had not met or interacted with Baidya in the past week, except for routine official correspondence regarding the latter’s negligence in assigned duties.
Sources further confirmed that Baidya has been advised to undergo psychiatric consultation, and the matter is being viewed as a health and administrative issue rather than one of misconduct.
The situation has caused a stir within Ambassa’s administrative and teaching circles, prompting calls from several quarters for a neutral inquiry into the sequence of events to ensure both fairness and transparency.
As of now, no official statement has been issued by either the Dhalai district administration or the Ambassa SDM office regarding the allegations and counterclaims.
