BJP Youth Leader Allegedly Assaults Passengers and Driver in Front of Police After Minor Collision at Bishramganj

Fresh questions have been raised over law and order in Tripura after a shocking incident of public assault took place in broad daylight. The incident occurred on Wednesday afternoon at Dewan Bazar along the National Highway under Bishramganj Police Station in Sepahijala district.

According to reports, a family from Bishalgarh was travelling to Udaipur Matabari in a small car when their vehicle lightly brushed against a motorbike belonging to Bappa Debnath, a local leader of the BJP’s youth wing, at the crowded Bishramganj market area. Although no one was injured and the damage was minimal, the situation quickly escalated.

A group of men, reportedly followers of the BJP youth leader, chased the car up to Dewan Bazar, forcibly stopped it, and allegedly beat up the passengers and the driver mercilessly. Eyewitnesses claim that several police personnel were present nearby but did not intervene to protect the victims.

The attackers also vandalized the vehicle, and one police constable travelling in the car was allegedly assaulted as well. Following the incident, police later intervened and brought the victims to the police station.

As of the time of reporting, no arrests have been made in connection with the incident. However, Bishramganj Police Station has registered a case and initiated an investigation into the matter.

The incident has sparked outrage among locals, who are questioning the deteriorating law and order situation in the state, especially when such attacks are carried out openly in front of law enforcement officers.
