Trinamool’s strength lies on illegal immigrants, claims BJP

Tripura BJP Chief Spokesperson Nabendu Bhattacharjee on Wednesday alleged that the All India Trinamool Congress is ruling West Bengal with the backing of illegal immigrants from Bangladesh. He claimed that the recent attack on BJP MP Khagen Murmu and MLA Shankar Ghosh in Bengal was carried out by Bangladeshi immigrants allegedly sheltered by the ruling party.

Bhattacharjee asserted that AITC would never succeed in Tripura since the state does not encourage the settlement of illegal immigrants. He said the Trinamool’s political base in Bengal was built upon those who had settled there with the party’s support.

Defending the police action that restricted AITC leaders from moving towards their office from the airport, he said the delegation leader was linked to chit fund scams that defrauded Tripura residents, and the restriction was a safety measure.

Rejecting allegations of vandalism at the AITC office, Bhattacharjee clarified that only a few posters and flags were damaged as workers acted out of emotion. He said no property was destroyed and accused the Trinamool of exaggerating the incident through Bengal-based media outlets.

BJP Vice President Papia Datta and State Secretary Devid Debbarma were also present at the press conference.
