Tripura Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha on Wednesday took a swipe at the All India Trinamool Congress, saying he hoped God would bless the Bengal-based party with wisdom to focus on public welfare instead of making repeated but futile attempts to expand its base in Tripura.
Reacting to the visit of an AITC delegation to the state, Dr Saha said the party had failed to make any impact in Tripura despite multiple efforts over the years. He remarked that only a signboard exists in the name of Trinamool in Tripura and that every election had exposed its organisational weakness.
On reports of an alleged attack on the AITC state headquarters in Agartala, the Chief Minister said the incident was being exaggerated, clarifying that no major damage occurred and that police quickly brought the situation under control.
He further alleged that widespread resentment prevailed among people across political lines over the “Trinamool-sponsored” violence against BJP leaders in North Bengal. Referring to the attack on BJP MP Khagen Murmu and MLA Shankar Ghosh, he said a particular section was mobilised for the assault.
Advising AITC to focus on governance in West Bengal, Dr Saha said the party should prioritise Bengal’s development instead of political expeditions in Tripura.
