Landlord booked for allegedly molesting tribal student in Kailashahar

A tribal student has lodged a complaint against her landlord for allegedly molesting her inside her rented accommodation in Durgapur area under Kailashahar Municipal Council, Unakoti district, on Tuesday.

Police identified the accused as Shailen Bhattacharjee, the owner of a house in Durgapur where several students stay as paying guests. The victim, a student from Samaru Chhara area in Fatikroy constituency, had recently returned after the Puja holidays to resume her studies.

According to the complaint, the girl’s brother had accompanied her to the house and later went to the market, leaving her alone. Bhattacharjee allegedly entered the room and attempted to molest her. Terrified, she ran out and informed her fellow students, who later contacted her family.

The family first reported the matter to a nearby police station before approaching the Kailashahar Women Police Station, which holds jurisdiction over the area. The victim, accompanied by relatives, filed a written complaint with Officer-in-Charge Inspector Swarna Debbarma, who assured that her identity would remain confidential.

The family has demanded stern action against the accused, terming the incident “deeply shameful and unacceptable.”

Police confirmed that a case has been registered. “The complaint has been received, and necessary steps are being taken. The matter is under thorough investigation,” said the Women Police Station OC.
