Police have arrested 13 individuals in connection with several incidents of violence and anti-social behaviour reported in different parts of Agartala during the Durga Puja festivities, Officer-in-Charge of West Agartala Police Station Rana Chatterjee said on Sunday.
According to Chatterjee, multiple cases were registered under the West Agartala Police Station involving scuffles, assaults, and attacks. “Thirteen persons have been arrested so far. Some are currently in police remand, some have been produced before court, and others will be presented again as their remand periods end,” he said.
He cited an incident where a man was assaulted after objecting to the eve-teasing of his wife, and said that the accused in that case were among those arrested. Another case involved a clash within the police station’s jurisdiction, while three individuals were detained following a scuffle with a TSR trooper in Dashamighat area on Saturday night.
Chatterjee said that all the accused face charges under various non-bailable sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including those related to grievous hurt and attempt to murder. Legal proceedings have been initiated in each case, and investigations are ongoing.
